Golf Tips

It can be hard for some golfers to turn a trip to the driving range into something more than just an opportunity to smack a bucket full of balls into an open vineyard...well I guess there aren't any other driving ranges over vineyards, but you know what we mean.
Turning your driving range time into quality practice time takes dedication and focus, but in the end, it can help you improve your game and lower your score on the course.
Instead of bashing a full bucket of balls with the same club, try making a mental game out of your next trip to Veris Cellars, or any golf driving range!  Pick  a standard hole distance, such as 350 yards, for example.  Luckily we have markers in the vines for you so you can see just how far your ball is going!  Pull out your usual club off the tee, such as your driver or feel free to use one of our many complimentary clubs, and give it your best shot.
When you hit a quality shot on the driving range, take a second and close your eyes.  Take a few deep breaths and envision the shot you just hit in your mind, along with the pure swing you just used.  This will help establish a mental connection and then on the course you will naturally perfom the same solid swing as you visualize what you did on the driving range.
And lastly, focus on one weakness at a time.  Practice it several times such as rotating your hips or follow through, until you get it perfect.  And as always, share a bottle of Ben Hogan while you are at it!

Wine Party Idea of the Week!

We are starting a new series of awesome ideas for you winos for entertaining your guests, or just yourself and your cat.  Whichever you prefer. ;)

Each week we will post an authentic recipe that will either pair well with our award winning wines or actually include them in the food itself.

Then we will give you a fun and unique way to entertain your posse to woo them with your snazzy skills as wino host of the year!

First up is by our own tasting room manager Rick Riva!

Menu: BBQ Beef Brisket - Coleslaw - Zin Brownies - Orange Chard Slices
Entertainment: Blending Party at Home!

BBQ Beef Brisket-

Get a large flat brisket and put it fat side up in a large metal rectangle cake pan or casserole dish.  Rub the fat side up with 2 packets of dry Lipton Onion soup mix.  Loosely cover it with foil and Bake for 8 hours at 200 degrees.  Remove the foil and bake for one more hour.  Then Scrape off the fat and mix, shred by hand and mix with your favorite BBQ sauce.   Add your favorite coleslaw and layer with a gourmet bun for an awesome sandwich!!

PAIR WITH BEN HOGAN SYRAH

Light and delicious side are Orange Chard Slices-

Mix an orange jello mix with our BEN HOGAN CHARDONNAY instead of the water and pour into hollowed out half orange peels (like little cups).  Harden in the fridge and then slice them up for tasting!

Zin Brownies-

Bake Brownies for dessert with your favorite brownie mix but add our BEN HOGAN ZINFANDEL instead of the water and taste heaven when they come out!!

Blending Party-

Take 5 of your favorite VERIS CELLARS WINES  and get some couples together as partners.  Then have them blend and taste their concoctions to make their perfect "blend" to pour in an unmarked carafe.  The host then takes the carafes and labels them in secret!!!
Each team then tastes all of the different ones and then blind votes on the best one!! Give a prize to the winner!!

Good times.  And your cat will love it ;) ha ha

It's WINE!

It's a celebration with friends.
It's a serene evening alone with your thoughts.
It's a reward following a long day at the office.
It's a momentary time out.
It's an escape.
It's a progression.
It's a cultural equalizer.
It's an educational experience.
It's a meal enhancer.
It's dessert.
It's a labor of love.
It's an art form.
It's simple.
It's intricate.
It's familiar.
It's unusual.
It's yours.
It's mine.
It's ours.
It's WINE!

Welcome to our blog "The Wine Word."  We look forward to sharing this journey with you!
